You Can Build a 2-Story Dome Home That Looks Straight Out of a Wellness Retreat
Amazon is selling a spacious prefab dome home kit with a unique yurt-like design, customizable interior, and room for the whole family.

There are approximately one million reasons to wish your house had more space. Maybe your dining table has become a permanent home office, your overnight guests are relegated to the pullout couch, or your storage closets are at max capacity. Adding on to your home can be pretty complicated, which might explain why prefab tiny homes have become so popular. Instead of knocking down walls or living through months of construction, you can add an entire house to your property without taking out a second mortgage.
Amazon offers an array of options, but this dome-style kit has us already mentally rearranging our backyards. The structure has a rounded shape and wood-shingled exterior, but the coolest part may be what you can do inside. The rooms fan out like slices of a pie, with an open-concept kitchen, dining, and living area alongside two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a laundry room. The proposed second story adds three bedrooms and another bathroom, while leaving part of the space open to the floor below.
In total, the unique example layout shows approximately 2,340 square feet of living space across two floors. That’s hardly what I’d call tiny! Once built, I could easily see this becoming a family vacation home, tucked away in the mountains by a lake, a one-of-a-kind rental property, or even a roomy granny pod that lets aging relatives live nearby while still enjoying their freedom. Personally, I’d be tempted to swap one of the five proposed bedrooms for a crafting studio, game room, or cozy reading nook.
After it’s constructed, there’s still plenty left to do to make the dome feel like home, from adding the foundation and utilities to choosing the roofing, windows, doors, light fixtures, and paint. But with the main framing components prefabricated and ready for on-site assembly, you get a major head start on a custom build at far less than the cost of a traditional construction project.
